Andrew Markowitz, 12/19/09

Saturday, December 19, 2009, the Delaware Valley was “clobbered” with a record large snowfall. It was recorded that Wilmington received approximately 17 inches. Another, more noteworthy, news item also took place, Andrew Markowitz’s Bar Mitzvah. The ceremony took place at Congregation Beth Emeth on Lea Blvd. with Rabbi Yair Robinson presiding.

Andrew, an avid Patriots fan, is the son of Jason & Elaine Markowitz of Wilmington, DE., and the brother of Becky Markowitz. The ceremony was attended by those who braved the wintery weather including grandparents, other family members, and friends. The band was established 10 years ago and is currently under the direction of Paul Hess. There are about 70 players ranging in age from 52 – 88. The program selections included “All Is Calm”, “Shalom”, and “Christmas Festival". The selection “Fanfare and Decennial Jubilee” was written to dedicate the 10th anniversary of the band.
